Moreover, super NES was better sold in Japan than Mega Drive and it was number one on the Japanese market.

Super NES was released in the USA in 1991. In Europe, it was released in 1992. Unlike the situation in Japan, however, the competition between super NES and Mega Drive on the international market has become tough and the rivalry between Nintendo and Sega increased to maximum. Finally, super NES has conquered the USA, whereas Mega Drive has conquered Europe. Overall, super NES sold better than Mega Drive with 49,000,000 consoles sold.

In 1996, Super NES was followed by Nintendo 64, and even if super NES production continued, it was not as famous as it was at the beginning.
